Nyungwe Forest National Park is situated in the southern area of Lake Kivu, on the border with Burundi. It was established in 2005 to protect one of the oldest forest habitats across Africa. The landscapes of the park are dominated by dense montane forests that seem to stretch into the horizon. As well as fertile grasslands, bamboo and swamps.

The perfect season to visit Nyungwe National Park is during the long dry season. It typically lasts from June to September. The short dry season (from December to February) is great for birdwatching safaris in Nyungwe National Park.
The high season in Nyungwe National Park is from June to September. It’s a great time for gorilla trekking. In March and April, most trekking paths are slippery. So, be sure to have all the necessary equipment and be careful while trekking.
