HIKING TO THE TOP OF MURCHISON FALLS

Hiking to the top of Murchison Falls is such a memorable experience. Murchison Falls National Park has designated two possible ways through which a traveler can hike top the falls as described as the most spectacular falls in the world. Murchison Falls National Park covering an area of about 5,072km2 situated in the floor of Albertine Rift Valley in North West of Uganda. The falls squeeze in the 7-meter gap as it tries to pass through in the rock and crashes through this narrow gorge with unbelievable power. It takes about 300km over about 6 hours’ drive from Kampala city.

on this alternative, taking about cruise from paara jetty up to the bottom of the falls and you get off the boat at to the starting place of the hike up the Murchison Falls, the hike starts right off at baker’s point, where Sir Samuel Baker, a famous explorer of the time, stood on a huge rock to declare the beautiful falls in 1864 as Murchison Falls, like they are famously known to be today.

The inquisitive hike with an informative guide as explain certain features and answers all your questions you come out with as observing the beautiful scenery. It’s about 45-minute guided hike which requires you to be physically fit, while on this hike you will have a great time watching rolling hills, vegetation types, birds, and you will keep hearing the thunderous roars of the falls.

When you are at the top it’s a great time to watch the white form that these falls make, as water break through a narrow gap of  7 meters and at this point you can see a permanent rainbow at the falls really it takes lots and lots of great pictures.

On another eye, the top of the falls can be explored by driving there which takes about 15km drive starts by branching off from the Masindi – Paraa road close to Sambiya River lodge which requires careful drive as it passes through steep and slippery landscapes were finally at the top of the falls.

Getting sight of Uhuru fall

Uhuru fall was formed as a result of breaking away of water from the Murchison falls, forming another fall right at the time of Uganda’s independence in 1962 hence giving it the name “Uhuru”, a Kiswahili word that means independence. The scenery at this point is simply spectacular.

Finally, you have made it! Top of the falls. Here you will forget all the pain and toiling through the endless steps, as the cool fresh air blows away the exhaustion and the beautiful music, quickly reaches your ears, from the falls as they join hands with huge rocks in a loud clap, and the soft splashes, almost like little drizzles from heaven fall on your face. It’s so refreshing, so beautiful. You can stay here forever!
