Common Questions

Here are some Frequently Asked Questions about our Scheduled safaris to Uganda.
Are scheduled group safaris suitable for children and families?

Absolutely. Our scheduled safaris are suitable for families and children.

The most remarkable safari memories happen with close friends, family or one’s own children.

With the exception of gorilla and chimpanzee tracking where children under 15 and 12 – respectively – are not allowed, most other safari activities are open for children. Very extreme activities like mountain climbing are not suitable for children under a certain age.

Joining a scheduled group safari doesn’t mean that you can’t travel with family or friends.

If you are thinking of coming for a safari with a child or children, talk to us so that we can advise with specific details in mind.

What kind of accommodations can I expect during the safari?

Uganda’s tourism infrastructure is well developed and there are many accommodation options for visitors. There are luxury lodges, mid range lodges, budget lodges and even camping sites of various price ranges and offerings.

For these scheduled safari packages, we choose mid-range accommodation. You will have all the modern amenities and great service from professionals who we know and trust to deliver.

If you are a small group of friends or family members that wants to go as part of the scheduled safaris, we can customized some items such as accommodation to your preference.

What is the best time of year to go on a safari in Uganda or Rwanda?

The best time for a safari in Uganda and Rwanda is during the dry seasons, from June to September and December to February. During these months, wildlife is easier to spot as animals gather around water sources, and trekking conditions are better.

Both Uganda and Rwanda enjoy tropical climates with warm sunny days all year round – which means that even during the rain season, guests can still visit for gorillas, wildlife, birds and more. The rainy seasons are especially ideal for people who like uncrowded parks with lush vegetation. The rains are great for birders and photographers.

Your safari itinerary can be planned with your schedule and interests in mind. If your schedule is more flexible, we can recommend for you a schedule that will perfectly balance your interests and preferences – making your safari a perfect adventure.

What is included in the cost of the safari?

The cost typically includes accommodation, meals, guided tours, park entry fees, and transportation within Uganda. Gorilla and chimpanzee trekking permits are often included, but please check the specific details for each trip.

Do I need travel insurance for a safari trip?

Yes, we recommend that you get travel insurance for your safari trip.

Travel insurance can cover unexpected events such as trip cancellations, medical emergencies, lost luggage, and travel delays.

While the goal is to make sure everything goes as smoothly as possible, travel insurance for your safari provides peace of mind and financial protection in case something goes wrong.

Do I need extra cash on safari?

While everything regarding your trip will already be paid for and awaiting you, we recommend you carry some extra money for personal expenses. Tips to guides, porters and other service people are the most common use of this safari pocket money.

You might also want to buy souvenirs from local markets or craftspeople. Additionally, having cash on hand can be useful for any incidental expenses not covered by your safari package, such as extra snacks or drinks, or special activities you decide to add on the spot.

Take a look at our article about carrying safari pocket money, and dig into a bit more detail and our insight on the matter.

We’ll provide a detailed packing list when you book, but essentials include comfortable walking shoes, light clothing, a good camera, sunscreen, insect repellent, a hat, and a waterproof jacket. Binoculars are also great for bird watching and spotting distant wildlife.
