Rwanda Safari Packing List

Decisions abound! This statement perfectly captures the essence of packing for Safaris in Rwanda. After carefully booking and planning your safari, there’s another hurdle in the way – No Way! That’s what probably comes to mind.

A packing Checklist is essential for a Safari in Rwanda – Double check if you have everything!

But, worry not fellow travellers. The following specially assembled Rwanda Safari Packing List has been created for you! It will go over the essential things to pack in your suitcase for a safari in the land of a thousand hills!

Clothing

You should minimize the items of clothing you pack for a Rwanda Safari Tour. Just make sure to pack a few pairs of light and comfortable clothing and you’re set! Ensure to include items such as:

  • A couple of short-sleeved shirts and 2-3 long-sleeved shirts.
  • A pair of shorts and trousers/pants.
  • Windproof and waterproof jacket (for gorilla treks)
  • Few pairs of underwear and socks
  • Trekking Gloves and a waterproof backpack

Personal toiletries like shampoo, soap, moisturizer, deodorant, toothpaste and toothbrush should also be packed for your Rwanda Trip.

Our Insights – Avoid wearing bright-coloured clothes – Earth tones are advised. Laundry services are available at most Rwanda Accommodations so don’t overpack!

Footwear

Strong waterproof hiking boots are recommended, especially if you’re going to be trekking. Rain boots (with moisture-wicking soles) also work great. If you’re visiting Rwanda in the rainy season then, make sure that the soles of your shoes are not slippery.

Sun & Rain Protection

Packing plenty of sunscreens and a raincoat is a must if you’re visiting Rwanda. Also, include a wide-brim hat (sunglasses also work) and insect repellent (with DEET) in your luggage.

Electronics

A Great camera is a must for safaris in Rwanda. We recommend bringing a GoPro so that you can document every part of your safari expedition. You can’t go wrong in packing a few extra lenses and memory cards too.

Of course, a phone and adapters are a must. Consider packing a power bank or a solar charger if you’d like to camp in the wilderness.

Documents

You should have all the essential documents in your luggage before you leave for your safari adventure. The following are some document you should ensure are in your luggage:

  • Passport and Visa
  • Identification Documents
  • Travel Insurance Papers
  • List of Emergency contact numbers
  • Medical Certificates
  • Health Surveillance Forms

Note – Covid-19 testing and restrictions are no longer applicable in Rwanda. But, do follow the necessary precautions and have a vaccination certificate along with you.

Conclusion

To have a memorable safari excursion in Rwanda, you should first make sure that you have all the above items in your bag. Doing this will help you along the way and you’ll be able to enjoy hassle-free Safaris in Rwanda.
