Day 1;

Drive from Kampala to Kasese Via Mbarara

Met our safari guide early in the morning ready for a transfer to Kasese via Mbarara for lunch at the Agip Motel Mbarara. The journey takes you along the L. Victoria on a good road to Mbarara. From here, the landscape charges to a hilly and fertile area with tea and banana plantations.

Day 2:

Nyakalengija to Nyabitaba Hut

Have breakfast and drive to the main office at Nyakalengija, From Nyakalengija, it’s a 10Km, five-hour ascent to the Nyabitaba Hut, passing first through cultivation than through forest. Dinner and overnight at the hut

Day 3:

Nyabitaba Hut to John Mate Hut

This takes approximately 7 hours. From Nyabitaba Hut, the path descends through forest for a short time before it crosses the Bujuku River at the Kurt Scehafer Bridge. You will stop for lunch at Nyamileju. After leaving Nyamileju, the path passes a giant heather forest and follows the Bujuka River. John Matte hut is about a two-hour walk from Nyamileju.

Day 4:

John Mate Hut to Bujuku Hut

This takes up to 5 hours, depending on the condition of the two Bigo Bogs, which are often knee-deep in mud. On the way to the hut you will pass Lake Bujuka, which is a magnificent setting between mounts Stanly, Speke and Baker. Bujuka hut is the base for reaching Mount Speke and you will need to spend an extra night there in order to do this.

Day 5:

Bujuku Hut to Kitandara

From Bujuku hut you will ascend to the highest point on the Loop Trail, Scott Elliot Pass (4,372m) before descending to the two Kitandara lakes. The hut is next to the second lake.

Day 6:

Kitandara Hut to Guy Yeoman Hut

This is a 5-hour walk, starting with a steep ascent to fresh field Pass (4,282m) then descent to Bujongolo cave (3,720m), the base used by the 1906 expedition. Further along the trail at kabamba cave (3,450m) there is so attractive waterfall and rock shelter where you can stay overnight as an alternative to Guy Yeoman Hut.

Day 7 & 8:

Guy Yeoman Hut to Nyakalegija

It is a 5-hour descent from Guy Yeoman Hut to Nyabitaba Hut. You can either stay overnight at the hut or else continue at Nyakalengija which will take 3 hours. You will again meet with you guide ready for a transfer to your hotel for an overnight stay.

Day 9:

Kasese, to Queen Elizabeth NP, Then Bwindi

Early morning with breakfast, proceed to Bwindi via Queen Elizabeth National park with a game drive in Kasenyi and Queens Mile makes visitors encounter elephants, buffalo, water bucks, warthogs, lions, Uganda Kobs lakes and a variety of birds. Thereafter continue with a scenic drive to Bwindi as you experience the undulating land forms, vegetations and the Ankole long horned cattle arriving in the evening.

Day 10:

Gorilla Trekkin in Bwindi

Today is dedicated for Gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Get up early to start your gorilla trek, and jump into the muddled & mist-covered woodlands with trackers and guides who’re extensively knowledgeable at spotting the rare gorillas by discovering the den the family slept last night. You will go through the dense untamed rain forest, mossy rocks and deep undergrowth in the hunt of these rare creatures and it can be strenuous at times. Nevertheless, when you encounter mountain gorillas for the 1st time in your life all your effort will pay for itself. Watching mountain gorillas from their natural home is a memory that you don’t forget soon. Return to the Lodge for ample relaxation and in the afternoon ready for a community/village walk for a cultural community experience. Share the lifestyle of the local Batwa people living around Bwindi Impenetrable forests. It such a unique experience with the local community

Day 11:

Drive from Bwindi to Volcanoes NP in Rwanda

After breakfast, drive to Rwanda as you enjoy what is referred to as the Land of A Thousand hills which Rwanda is well known to Ruhengere. The evening is spent on sightseeing and relaxing around your safari Lodge

Day 12:

Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes NP

After breakfast, you will depart for the headquarters of the Park where your driver-guide will accomplish the necessary formalities for you. You will meet your ranger guide(s) for a briefing about the greatest animal experience ever! After assigning your gorilla group you will then enter the jungle for your gorilla trekking tour in Rwanda. Your driver-guide from Exclusive African Safaris Ltd will wait for you. After the trekking, the evening is spent on a community walk in Ruhengere to take you through the local communities, how they live plus their ordinary life style especially those staying around the gorilla Park

Day 13:

Golden Monkey Tracking, Drive to Kigalei, Departure

Track Golden Monkey today. Volcanoes National Park currently has two habituated golden monkeys’ troops that are available for visiting by tourists in the park, both of which make about 80 members. Golden Monkey trekking is an exciting experience in Rwanda’s Parc Volcanoes. After your golden monkey trekking with lunch at Ruhengere and transfer to Kigali International Airport for your departure flight.

Mount Rwenzori is one of the most challenging mountains to climb in the whole of Africa and you will need proper preparation. We advise you to read out article on what you should pack for the rwenzori hike so that you are greatly prepared in advance.

We must also note that Climbing the Rwenzori Mountain ranges is a very tiresome activity that involves more than 6 hours of daily climbing and sloping. This means that it is an adventure to be undertaken by the physically fit and tough at heart.

As this Safari contains gorilla trekking, make sure to know the recommended items to include in your packing list. As far as gorilla tracking is concerned, the following should be taken into consideration.

  • Gorilla trekking is a strenuous activity and one should be physically fit to enjoy this tour.
  • Minimum gorilla tracking age is 15 years.
  • Anyone with signs of communicable diseases will NOT be allowed to track.
  • While possession of a gorilla permit is a guarantee of trekking and sighting the gorillas, the quality of the gorilla trekking cannot be guaranteed.
  • Maximum time allowed with the gorillas will NOT exceed ONE hour.
